I’m Back

5 Nov

It is hard to believe that the last time that I posted was Belmont, back in June.  While I may not have written in a while, I have definitely been busy.  My 9-5 job has been insanely busy over the past few months, along with a few health issues (nothing to worry about) so my sewing has had to take a backseat. (That does not mean I stop sewing entirely, just not as often as normal)  I have moved a few things around in my schedule to ensure that I have time to fit everything in and somehow found time to add a kickboxing class into my schedule as well.

Back in college, Andy told me that when he has a child, I need to make it’s Halloween costume.  Well that time has come, as Benny celebrated his first Halloween this year.  Benny decided that he wanted to be an elephant this year, which I thought was a good decision.  (He has an elephant nursery)  Since Benny is young, I had to keep it comfy and also warm since October can be chilly.  I made a gray fleece onesie and added a tail.  For the hat, I created floppy ears and added a trunk to the top.  Something was missing, so I added pom-poms for eyes and I think that did the trick.  I tried the costume on my teddy bear for sizing as it was the closest that I had for size.

I was debating if I should make myself a Halloween costume this year, but a few weeks before decided that I did.  Halloween is a good time to be creative and experiment with new designs.  I decided that I was going to be Ursula, the octopus from the Little Mermaid this year.  I figured that it would be pretty easy; create a long, black gown, add legs to the waist band and stuff them.  I think this is the first time that I made a long dress for myself.

To make the legs pop, I went with purple on the underneath, and then filled them with stuffing.

The dress was a little heavy so I added sequin straps to avoid a wardrobe malfunction.    I made an eel wrap out of fleece for to clarify that I was Ursula.

Now that Halloween has passed, it is time for my favorite holiday, Christmas.  I just starting working on my holiday collection for this year and am loving everything about it; lots of wool, lots of gold, and a few pops of color in various shades of berry.  My only concern is that I do not think I have enough events for all of my outfits, which means that I will either need to find some invites or do outfit changes at parties. Be sure to check back in to see how the collection turns out, I promise I will not let months go by before my next post.
