Happy Halloween

31 Oct

Happy Halloween!  Anyone else out there getting dressed up today?  I had a hard time deciding what to be for Halloween this year.  I received some suedecloth from my aunt and thought of being Pocahontas, continuing with my Disney theme. But that received negative reviews from a few people saying it was not politically correct. (Isn’t Halloween the one day that you can get away with being politically incorrect? ) After much contemplation, I went traditional with a witch.  Since it was me, I gave it a twist and included lots of sparkles.(I think that old age that is attracting me to anything that sparkles)  There are three pieces required for all witch costumes; dress, hat and cape.

For the dress, it had to be black, but black and sparkly. After going on a wild goose chase a few weekends back I found the perfect fabric; black, stretchy and sparkly.  I wanted a hatler dress even though it is a style I do not wear often.  (The ties at the neck give me headaches) I love this dress, it has just the right amount of a costumey element to it. Besides I could wear this dress again on Halloween next year if I want to be a lounge singer or fortune-teller.

For the cape, I found a black sheer spiderweb. And it had sparkles on it, so it was perfect.  The cape was very simple. I folded 5 inches down for a collar and made a casing.  I feed orange and black ribbon through the casing and used it as a tie on the cape.

I bought this witch hat, but it looked cheap. (It was only $3 so I can’t complain)

I had some left over black sparkly fabric, I covered the hat in the fabric and added an orange ribbon.  Now this is a proper witch hat.

A witch has to have accessories.  I bought orange and black tights and also found witch shoe covers.  They just slip on over your shoes.

How cute and I can wear them if I ever want to be a leprechaun.  When I saw my mother a few weeks ago she was giving away a lot of her Halloween decorations and gave me this ghost garland.  I turned it into a necklace to complete my outfit.

And it wouldn’t be Halloween without a treat or two

Ok first of all your witch costume is super cute and only you could make a witch costume look that good. Second of all, being Pocahontas is not politically incorrect. MAYBE if you were an “Indian” it would be borderline? But Pocahontas is DISNEY. I say next year you can do it.

I didn’t wear a costume to work, but do have on an orange shirt and orange/black beads. I dressed up in 80’s workout gear to teach my class last night, I think that counts!

So cute! I agree with Athena, Pocahontas is ok, “Indian” is not. BUT Emily Fields rocked a cute native american costume a couple years ago, so who knows. Love the witch though! Sadly, I am a lame face and did not dress up this year.
